According to the results of the new draw, the United States authorities plan to issue 55,000 immigrant visas.
The administration of US President Joe Biden has announced the resumption of the lottery for the issuance of green cards to foreign nationals from around the world.
In particular, registration for the lottery has started in 2023, according to the results of which the US authorities plan to issue 55 thousand Green Cards.
The Biden administration’s statement on the resumption of the lottery came amid lawsuits against the US government from past green card winners who, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and slow data processing, have not yet received entry documents.
A State Department spokesman warned that winning a lottery did not guarantee a visa.
“Winning the lottery does not guarantee that you will get a visa or pass a visa interview. Winning the lottery simply means that a person has the right to participate in the program to obtain immigration visas,” – said in a written comment by a State Department official.
To date, the right to obtain an immigrant visa is not carried over to the next year, and the entire process of selecting winners and submitting documents must be completed in one calendar year.
At a briefing on October 8, White House spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki acknowledged that there are now problems with processing data from immigrants seeking green cards.
The journalist noted that 80,000 applications for a Green Card were lost in one month, and millions of people are still waiting for the issuance of documents allowing entry into the United States, to which Jennifer Psaki replied: “The President also absolutely wants to eliminate delays in processing green cards”.
