If you thought that 2021 was the year of the most high-profile collaborations, then Ye (aka Kanye West) and Demna Gvasalia are ready to convince you of this. The thing is that a few days ago, the rapper announced that he was working on the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga project. In a couple of hours, the news managed to fly around literally the entire Internet, and fashion publications immediately dubbed the future collection the loudest release of 2022 (may Prada and Adidas forgive us). And while fashion critics are wondering what big names in the industry are preparing for us, here’s everything there is to know about the upcoming collaboration between Kanye, GAP and Balenciaga.
We learned that Kanye signed a 10-year contract with GAP back in 2020. Then the news was not without a scandal: initially the brand planned to cooperate with Telfar Clemens, but then Kanye appeared on the horizon and the GAP X Telfar collaboration never happened. It remained to be seen what West would come up with within the framework of this project. And Kanye, of course, did not disappoint. In general, the fact that the rapper decided to involve Demna in the joint collection is not surprising. It’s no secret that Ye is a longtime and dedicated fan of Balenciaga. And with Demna he has a warm and strong relationship.
We will see the first capsule of Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga in June. The second collection will appear towards the end of the year.
