Artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbera, noted that Scott’s “personal approach to filmmaking,” which “successfully combines the demands of the show, the expectations of the general public, and the demands of the critics,” is the most distinctive element of his filmmaking. “His undeniable strengths include an extraordinary talent for visualization and artistic taste, which he displays in creating sumptuous baroque and graphically majestic images, accompanied by the rare and invaluable talent of the director-actor,” added Barbera.

Previously, Cartier became the main sponsor of the Venice Film Festival and announced a long-term partnership in which they will be honoring outstanding filmmakers with the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Prize. The award will be awarded to individuals who have made a special contribution to the development of the modern film industry.
