In Spain, young people will be paid an allowance to help move away from their parents

The Spanish government has announced that it intends to pay benefits to young people who live with their parents. Thus, the country’s authorities want to help them find housing and move away from their families. This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda Raquel Jimenez.

The initiative of the authorities is explained by the high cost of housing in the country, which is often inaccessible to young people who do not have a high income. Thus, young people from 18 to 35 years old living with their parents, whose annual income does not exceed 24,318 euros, will be able to receive the allowance. The amount of the subsidy will be 250 euros per month, it will be available for two years.

According to 2020 data, more than half of Spaniards aged 22 to 29 live with their parents, one of the highest rates among European countries. In addition, approximately 29% of Spaniards under the age of 25 are unemployed.
