The European Parliament has decided on the date of the election of the new president after the death of Sassoli
The election of the new President of the European Parliament will be held on January 18 at the plenary session in Strasbourg.
The commemoration ceremony for David Sassoli, who died on January 11, will take place on January 17 at the opening of the plenary session.
The very next day, January 18, elections for the new President of the European Parliament will be held. Vice-presidents will also be elected in the same week.
According to the regulations, the first vice-president will temporarily lead the European Parliament until a new head is elected.
David Sassoli died at the age of 65 after being hospitalized in Italy.
Last September, Sassoli was admitted to a hospital in Strasbourg for treatment of severe pneumonia.
