Usyk Sets His Sights on the Presidency

Oleksandr Usyk, widely regarded as one of the most charismatic and influential athletes of his generation, has opened up about how he envisions life after his professional boxing career. The champion made it clear that his ambitions extend well beyond the sport—and reach the very top of government leadership.

According to Usyk, he plans to remain in the ring for several more years before turning his focus to serving his country. In a conversation with Andriy Biedniakov, the boxer responded to a lighthearted question about a potential political career at the local level by emphasizing that he does not see himself in roles that fall short of his broader aspirations.

“I’m not planning to aim for anything lower than the presidency,” Usyk said during an appearance on Biedniakov’s YouTube channel, projecting the confidence and strategic thinking that have long been central to his public persona.

Usyk also shared how he imagines the closing chapter of his sporting career. He hopes to host a gathering with leading journalists from the United Kingdom and the United States—reporters who have followed and documented his journey over the years—inviting them to Ukraine to personally thank them for their support and professionalism.

At the same time, the champion stressed that while he intends to formally retire as a professional boxer, he will never step away from the sport entirely. Boxing, he believes, will remain an integral part of his life regardless of the roles he may take on or the scale of the projects that lie ahead.
