Despite the pandemic, the number of dollar millionaires in the world surpassed the 20 million mark for the first time. That figure rose 6.3 percent to 20.8 million. The combined wealth of the world’s richest people increased by 7.6 percent over the past year to a record nearly $80 trillion, driven primarily by a boom in the securities markets.
Most people with a net worth of at least one million dollars are in the United States. They are followed by Japan, Germany and China. In total, these countries are home to nearly 63 percent of all millionaires in the world, according to the annual World Wealth Report.
In Germany alone, the club of millionaires increased by 69.1 thousand people (4.7 percent) to 1.535 million people, and their general fortune increased by 6.8 percent to 5.85 trillion dollars. The fortune of 6.575 million millionaires in the United States grew by 12.3 percent.
